Mount Dora

Orange Blossom Hill at dusk, its wraparound porch lit and the last peach light over Lake Dora behind the oaks.

Anyone who wants a real small town, hills by Florida standards and a little more land.

The town

Downtown is a few blocks of antique shops, cafes and restaurants climbing up from the lake, with a festival of some kind most months of the year. A small lighthouse stands at the end of a lakeside park.

The water

Lake Dora connects to Lake Eustis through the Dora Canal, a slow passage between old cypress trees and one of the loveliest short boat rides in Florida.

The houses

Victorian and Craftsman houses near downtown, farmhouses and groves on the hills around it, and lakefront houses with long docks.
